Why Giving and Getting Feedback is Critical for Good Writing
I personally believe that giving and receiving feedback is
the quickest way for a group of people to grow and learn together. Feedback is
a two-way street that helps both the person who is giving the feedback and the
one who is receiving it. The way it helps the person receiving it is fairly obvious,
that person gets constructive feedback that helps them better their work. It is
very easy to glance over mistakes or things that do not sound quite right while
writing if you are the only one both writing and reading the work. Having an
extra pair of eyes to look over your work can help you find things you would
have missed if you were proofreading on your own. Overall getting feedback is
one of the most effective ways to revise a work of writing. However, feedback
does not just help the person receiving it, it can also be large help to whoever
is giving the feedback. Often times when people are proofreading each other’s
papers, they are working on the same assignment. Reading the work of others can
help inspire you and find better ways of constructing your own work. Even if
the two people are not working on the same project there is always something
that can be learned from reading someone else’s writing. Even if it is not on
the same topic or prompt, reading others’ writing can help you better figure
out how to format yours. It also gives you the chance to step away from your
own work to see the big picture. I believe that giving and receiving feedback
is a critical part of creating effective writing.
