Brainstorming for Project

Image
Image: "Brainstorming" by jambulboy https://pixabay.com/vectors/question-questions-man-head-2519654/ I am almost one hundred percent sure that I want to do my project on either the movement arts as a whole or on one specific movement art. It is the art that is closest to me personally and I feel like I would be able to say the most about it and add to the conversation since it is such a big part of my life. So for this project I believe that I will most likely exploring one form of art. The movement art sport that I am most involved in, "tricking". is relatively new. most of the works of art, which is mostly in video form for tricking, have been created within the past ten years so I should be fine timeline wise.

The Enlightenment Movement Shaped our Society Into What it is Today

Image
Image: "What was the Enlightenment" by mrcaseyhistory.com The Enlightenment movement was all about looking at the ages of neoclassicism to better our society as a whole. The pioneers of the movement used their rationality to question our society and make it more efficient. Infographic: https://create.piktochart.com/output/49266371-my-visual

Without a Growth Mindset Feedback is Useless

Image
Image: "Feedback Chalkboard" by athree23 https://pixabay.com/photos/board-chalk-feedback-review-study-3700116/ I think a positive growth mindset is a necessity when receiving feedback; Without it the feedback goes completely to waste. For me, a positive growth mindset is about taking the best you can out of any criticisms and using it to better yourself. It is about being humble and hearing out people’s advice before you judge it. It is also about having an open mindset that allows you to experience and learn new things. This is an extremely important thing for anyone that ever wants to improve themselves, which is most people. Being open to new ideas allows you to look at the world in a different way. When you do this   you may end up wondering why you ever believed something in the first place; Something that you would never has known was wrong if you did not open your mind in the past. This applied to feedback in the writing process greatly. If a student does not car...

Image By Yuriy Golub https://mymodernmet.com/elements-of-art-visual-culture/ So far, I have learned a lot of things about nonfiction art works. I have found that many of the works in this category fall into one of two types. The first type being history books. These books tell the story of a mix of an art styles, or artists. The other type is an exploration of art. These can span various topics such as the theology of a specific style or a commentary on what it means to make art and why we do it. I found it really cool to see the interdisciplinary work being done between writing and other arts just as painting and drawing. It is really interesting when two mediums of art are combined. I also think the topics discussed are very interesting. I really enjoy reading about how the art of a time period impacted it’s history and vice versa. The other type is a little harder for me to understand but I still find it interesting to see how these art works would be described in ...

How Modern Technology has Shaped Art

Image
Image: " 65+ Social Networking Sites You Need to Know About" By Anatoliy Babiy. https://makeawebsitehub.com/social-media-sites/ Creating and sharing Art is more important in today’s society than it ever has been before. Modern society allows us to be more involved in the arts than in the past. I think that the secret to art in the modern age is our current level if technology. Modern technology gives us more time to be a part of the arts. The current level of technology makes it easier for us to survive than ever. In most of the world food is readily available and it is fairly easy to get medical attention. In the past, people had to go and hunt for or grow their own food and it was a lot harder to find a capable doctor. Today, with all these things easily obtainable, people are living longer with more free time than ever. I believe that a crucial part of art is sharing what you create and putting yourself out there. Modern day social media makes that more possible than...

Why Giving and Getting Feedback is Critical for Good Writing

I personally believe that giving and receiving feedback is the quickest way for a group of people to grow and learn together. Feedback is a two-way street that helps both the person who is giving the feedback and the one who is receiving it. The way it helps the person receiving it is fairly obvious, that person gets constructive feedback that helps them better their work. It is very easy to glance over mistakes or things that do not sound quite right while writing if you are the only one both writing and reading the work. Having an extra pair of eyes to look over your work can help you find things you would have missed if you were proofreading on your own. Overall getting feedback is one of the most effective ways to revise a work of writing. However, feedback does not just help the person receiving it, it can also be large help to whoever is giving the feedback. Often times when people are proofreading each other’s papers, they are working on the same assignment. Reading the wo...

Humanity Would Not be the Same Without Art

Image
Melia Robinson https://www.businessinsider.com/why-you-should-make-art-even-if-youre-bad-2016-6#1-making-art-may-reduce-stress-and-anxiety-1   For me, art is the act of expressing oneself through creation. It does not matter if the energy used is large or small, if the time spent is 1 minute or 10 hours, or if the end product is a physical object that can be held in the hand or not. I believe that the determining factor that defines something as art is if the action is done as a means of self expression. Art gives us a way to universally communicate and has the ability to bridge the gaps between cultures. I believe that art is crucial for cross culture communication. Art has no barriers to separate people from each other like traditional language. I personally have met so many people from all over the world through my art. My art has given me an instant connection and friendship with more people than I can count. Most of which I never would have met otherwise. The community th...

The arts that I have been a part of for most of my life are a variety of movement arts. While I enjoy consuming a variety of mediums of art the art that I personally create is pretty much all under the movement arts umbrella. The first and definitely the movement art I have spent the most time is martial arts. I have been studying martial arts for eleven years, starting with karate. Image: "Karate Kata" by rauschenberger Source: https://pixabay.com/illustrations/karate-kata-sport-defend-combat-3961079/ I spent ten years studying karate and the last two and half years of that journey teaching it as well. My time training exclusively karate ended about two years ago when one of my teachers began teaching me shaolin kung fu. This gave me an entirely new avenue to explore my martial arts and lead to me starting an entirely new kung fu style, wushu, in Boston when I started college last year. I have been going back and practicing a lot of my old material while waiting for Covid ...
